Am I Really Feeling Baby Kicks When I’m Not Pregnant?

Womens Health Am I Really Feeling Baby Kicks When Im Not Pregnant

Our bodies do weird things sometimes that don’t make sense. One of the strangest is phantom kicking.

Your menstrual cycle is the same, you haven’t been intimate lately, or you otherwise know for a fact that you’re not pregnant. So why do you keep feeling a non-existent baby practicing martial arts inside your body? Is this a sign that something is wrong?

First, take a deep breath and relax. You are going to be okay. This is something that many women experience. It is more likely to happen if you have been pregnant before. Even if you have never conceived, you can still feel those unexplained baby kicks.

The jury is still out on what causes this phenomenon. It could be the result of a little gas, intestinal rumbling, or even uterine irritation. It is not something to panic about and usually goes away on its own.

Some women describe this sensation as pleasant. It may be a sad reminder for others who have experienced the loss of an infant. Even if the kicks themselves aren’t hurting you, you still need to take care of your mental health. A reminder of a loss can cause us to feel pain, anger, and depression. That is a normal part of being human, and one that we should never ignore. A therapist can help you understand these emotions and deal with them in healthy, safe ways.

If you experience phantom kicks or notice other weird things happening in your body, make sure you do tell your OB/GYN at your next exam. We are here to answer all your questions. Make an appointment at Women’s Health today.
